Father’s Day is not an invention of the greeting card industry, contrary to what some people might think. In North America, Father’s Day was inaugurated in the early twentieth century because Mother’s Day was celebrated. Fathers throughout the land felt left out and wanted equal treatment. Imagine that men actually felt discriminated against so long ago. The battle of the sexes had already started.
Dads wanted a day to call their own. They also wanted to receive gifts from their children and more importantly to feel appreciated. The first Father’s Day was held on July 5, 1908 in a little town in West Virginia. The idea caught fire, but the date was moved back a month. Today, millions of people celebrate Father’s Day. This year Father’s Day is Sunday June 15. Check out my ideas for Father’s Day Gifts this year in my article Fathers Day Gift Ideas for the Dad Who Has Everything.

Hey Grandparents!
Be sure to remember that Easter Falls Early this year. Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008 falls a full two earlier than it did last year. Just think how much fun it will be shopping for those new Easter dresses and suits for the little boys. We always shopped for new outfits for Easter when I was growing up. My mom often made my dress. It was something I looked forward to and I think it gave me a sense of fashion and also made it fun to dress up for special occasions. I really loved picking out fabric and patterns for my dress. Then I also always got new shoes and a matching purse and gloves. We even wore Easter hats.
So what are you going to do for Easter this year? Do you have a warm vacation planned to a sunny destination or are you planning a last minute ski trip to a ski resort. Since I live in a snowy climate, I like the first idea best! I used to live in Texas so we usually either drove to Chorpus Christi Beach to start the season or flew to Vail for a winter vacation. What ever you do be sure to remember to order your Easter Gifts early this year. Check out my Easter Gift Ideas page for more ideas.

I just came back from my visiting my friend who just had her first baby. Now I am trying to decide which baby gift basket to send her. It was so great to see how much she loved her daughter even moments after she arrived. But as my time with her continued you could see that love blossoming more ever day. Dad was a little standoffish. I think he was afraid of the tiny newborn and just a wee jealous. Mom would sit for long periods and just gaze at the perfection of her newborn’s skin, toes, hands, fingers and son on.
